SYDNEY, Australia (Silverchair Fans Website) - Silverchair fans in Australia were in for a special treat as lead singer Daniel Johns, who suffers from reactive arthritis and hasn't performed since April as a result, took the stage at the 16th annual ARIA Awards. Held at The Sydney SuperDome, the awards show, which celebrates the best in Australian music, marked a one-off performance by Silverchair and Johns - who can only perform for about 15 minutes before his pain resurfaces. Prior to the ceremony Silverchair won three ARIA artisan awards, and after their performance picked up the Best Rock Album award for "Diorama." When the show wrapped up, Johns flew back to L.A. to resume treatment for his arthritis. The Vines were among the other winners at the 2002 ARIAs, scoring the Best New Artist (Single) award for "Get Free," while Kylie Minogue won a total of five awards, including Best Pop Release for her hit album, "Fever," as well as the award for Outstanding Achievement.
