Chili Peppers and Muse, and now they take aim at today's most exciting and controversial performer, Lady Gaga. Los Angeles-based Vitamin String Quartet (VSQ) have recorded instrumental versions of such
Lady Gaga hits as "Poker Face," "Just Dance," and her current hit "
Alejandro" for a digital release available exclusively on iTunes starting July 27th, 2010. The 11-song tribute album, "Vitamin String Quartet Performs Lady Gaga," will also be released on CD as well as to other digital music outlets on
September 14th, 2010.
"VSQ are masters of reinterpreting the works of really hard-hitting acts-which often leads us to rock and metal groups, like Paramore and Tool. But when we looked around for our next big challenge, surprisingly, we couldn't look past Lady Gaga. No other current artist seems to be channeling such primal forces in their music. That element is exactly what fuels VSQ's sound," says Vitamin label coordinator Leo Flynn.
The Vitamin String Quartet is comprised of a rotating collective of top-flight L.A. musicians, dedicated to bringing together rock and other contemporary styles with classical music instrumentation to create an electrifying cross-over genre. This distinctive niche has earned the group a loyal fan base around the world, including some of the artists whose music they've performed-Tool, Dream Theater, The Killers and renowned film composer Danny Elfman, to name a few.
VSQ has been heard in film and on television, most notably a favorite on So You Think You Can Dance, and contributed a track to Disney's all-star tribute to Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, in which the film's original score was reinterpreted by artists such as Marilyn Manson, All-American Rejects and Amy Lee. VSQ also remains a highly sought-after live act.
The 11 songs, which are played by the string quartet (two violins, a viola, and a cello), are culled from the international superstar's two multi-platinum albums, 2008's "The Fame" ("Just Dance," "Poker Face," "Paparazzi," and others) and 2009's "The Fame Monster" ("Bad Romance," "Alejandro," "Telephone," and others).
