Baltimore, MD (Top40 Charts/ Premiere Booking Agency) - It's been 27 weeks and still no sleep for e-dubble, who at the stroke of midnight EST each Friday releases an original, self-produced freestyle track available as a free download via his social media accounts on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, SoundCloud and Reverbnation.
Freestyle Friday, as the ambitious experiment by the Baltimore-based rapper has been known, received over 56,000 plays and 5,700 downloads since debuting in February 2010. His locomotive fan base has grown each week as evidenced by his live performances in Baltimore and on the web. Those are staggering numbers for an artist who has received no major media exposure.
'The fan love and support is humbling, it's amazing to know that a movement such as this can develop so organically and without a major label or press attention," says e-dubble. "It only inspires me to keep going and deliver good music every week."
"I feel people have latched onto the Freestyle Friday concept because they're desiring originality in today's music and want this music to continue evolving. I believe there's plenty of people out there who share these sentiments and appreciate how I integrate these different genres each Friday.'
Freestyle Friday continues the evolution of e-dubble, also known as Evan Wallace. The nearly 7-foot-tall former college basketball player who grew up outside of Philadelphia arrived on the hip hop scene when he relocated his base to Baltimore. Once relocating he spent a year writing, recording and producing Hip Hop is Good in November 2009.
e-dubble approaches rap music from the eyes of a generation who have seen hip-hop saddled with such labels as 'gangster,' 'underground,' 'conscious' and 'pop.' and through that exploration ends up in some faraway place that still feels like home. His tracks fuse lyrics about struggle and happiness, with monster beats and a razor-sharp commentary.
He's not afraid of mixing it up either, fearlessly combining the various genres he loves with today's breakthrough artists. Previous Freestyle Fridays deliver delicious samples from Tom Petty, Ratatat, the Black Keys, Regina Spektor and Hanson with truthful, hard-hitting rhymes that people of all musical tastes can devour.
'Freestyle Friday allows my supporters to experience the music that inspires and influences me," says e-dubble. "It also continues my growth as an artist, as I challenge myself by remixing tracks, putting my own spin on them, and delivering the music in a way that feels current and promotes interaction. The fan response has been huge, and their support coupled with my love of creating music keeps me excited each week when I enter the studio.'
