NASHVILLE, TN (Capitol Records) - Capitol recording artist and Grammy winner
Shelby Lynne is set to make her film debut in Walk The Line, a major motion picture based on the life of Johnny Cash. The Fox Searchlight film starring Reese Witherspoon and
Joaquin Phoenix and directed by
James Mangold (Girl, Interrupted) is currently filming in Memphis. Lynne has been tapped to play Cash's mother.
After she wraps shooting in Memphis, Shelby will play a few select dates. She has also been asked to perform with her mentor George Jones when he tapes a "Soundstage" episode for PBS this September. Shelby's own "Soundstage" performance, paired with a Counting Crows segment, will air on PBS on Thursday, August 26th (check local listings for time).
On September 24th, Lynne will appear with Tony Joe White at the Americana Honors & Awards in Nashville. The pair will perform "Can't Go Back Home," a song they co-wrote for White's upcoming album. The event will conclude the Americana Music Association Conference.
Shelby Lynne has started work in a Los Angeles studio with producer John Porter (Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams, The Smiths, Roxy Music) on the follow up to last year's highly acclaimed Identity Crisis. The album will be released next year and features such well-respected players as Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson) on harmonica and Michael Ward (The Wallflowers) on guitar.
Identity Crisis, Shelby's previous album, was widely regarded as one of the best of her career. The New York Times called it "an excellent, uneasy collection of country songs that toy with roots-rock conventions" and Blender hailed it as "the most direct and winning version of Lynne yet" in a four-star review. Her live shows are equally compelling. "Nothing less than dazzling," said the Chicago Tribune of her show last fall.
Shelby Lynne's upcoming dates include:
8/7 Chicago, IL Northalsted Market Days (headlining)
8/22 Allegheney, PA Hartwood Amphitheatre (headlining)
9/12 Hollywood, CA Hollywood Bowl (with Lyle Lovett)
9/19 Austin, TX Austin City Limits Music Festival
