LOS ANGELES (www.cdbaby.com/cd/lchernicoff) - Independent artist and composer Larry Chernicoff's CD, October, was named 'Best Made for Surround Title' of the year at the third annual Surround Music Awards.

The winners were announced at a star-studded event that took place August 31 at The Highlands in Hollywood, CA. The award was presented to Larry by rock legend Peter Frampton, in a ceremony that also honored surround sound releases by the Rolling Stones, Herbie Hancock, Beck, Peter Frampton, Elton John, and others.

The winners were selected by a panel of 75 expert judges including representatives from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, USA Today, Sound & Vision, Pro Sound News, Widescreen Review, Surround Professional, Highfidelityreview.com, and Los Angeles-based radio station KCRW.

Chernicoff's award goes to the most outstanding recording which was created from its inception with multi-channel in mind, and never previously released in any other format. Last year's winner in this category was Steely Dan's 'Everything Must Go.'

October was recorded by Paul Antonell at Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, New York, and mixed for surround sound by Paul and noted surround sound engineer and producer Rich Tozzoli. The album was co-produced by Chernicoff and Karl Berger, founder of the legendary Creative Music Studio. The CD was mastered for surround sound by David Glasser at Airshow MAstering in Boulder, CO.

October features original jazz/classical fusion compositions performed by Larry and his Windhorse large ensemble. October is a hybrid multi-channel SACD, playable on any standard CD player, and also on SACD 5.1 surround-sound players and home theater systems.

Chernicoff's music combines the warm sounds of 'orchestral' instruments with the dynamic of jazz improvisation and passages of meditative calm. The ensemble includes international players who are all bandleaders and recording artists themselves, who bring both jazz ands classical sensibilities to Chernicoff's music.
The panel of judges was evenly divided in their vote, and made the unusual decision to present two awards in this category, to Chernicoff and to Gordon Goodwin for his recording XXL, on Silverline Records.

October is available on the web exclusively at www.CDBaby.com, the online store for independent artists.
