NEW YORK (Justin Time Records) - World music guitarist Pavlo will release his U.S. debut album, 'Fantasia,' on
September 14 via Justin Time Records. The album, which was nominated as Best Instrumental Album of the Year at the 2000 Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, was originally released in the U.S. on the fateful day of
September 11, 2001.
Pavlo produced the album and wrote all the songs on
Fantasia except for his cover of "Never on Sunday." His compositions combine flamenco, Latin, classical and Greek bouzouki rhythms and melodies along with Mediterranean guitar. Musically the sound is a passionate blend for dancing, romance, adventure and relaxation infused with a sensual hint of gypsy mystery and intrigue.
"It was a natural progression to compose music that combined my childhood studies of flamenco/Latin guitar with my love for Greek music and European music in general," said Pavlo. "I'm grateful for this second opportunity to introduce my music to the U.S."
Born in Toronto, Ontario to Greek parents, Pavlo released his self-titled debut album in Canada in 1998 and it went gold. Fantasia was his second release and it was also certified as a gold-selling album in Canada. He's released two more albums since and this year he won World Artist of the Year honors at the Canadian Independent Music Awards. Last fall, Pavlo won a victory in court over R. Kelly, who used a sample without permission from Pavlo's song "Fantasia" on the hit single, "Fiesta."
Along with his band, Pavlo performs over 100 concert dates each year. He already has a series of U.S. dates lined up to promote Fantasia with more to be added soon.
