Franz Ferdinand are ready to roll with their new album, and it's brilliant! Titled 'You Could Have It So Much Better...With Franz Ferdinand', the boys will be soon releasing 'Do You Want To' as their first single. Superfantastisch! The first single from Fran Ferdinand's sophomore album, 'Do You Want To' hits Oz radio at the end of August, and was recorded in Scotland earlier this year, with production credits shared between the band and uber producer Rich Costey. The track was inspired by a big night out in Glasgow, and written by Franz frontman Alex Kapranos in response to a number of interesting offers he received over the course of the night.
Alex told NME.com: "We all went to this party in Glasgow one night. The way people have conversations with each other at parties such as that, because the music's so loud, they don't talk to each other, they just yell things in each others ears... When I came back later that night I was a wee bit steaming still and scribbled down on a bit of paper some of the things people had been yelling in my ear. Some of them were really funny."
The next day, Alex came up with a riff on the back of his hangover, and began singing some of the things people had been yelling to him the night before. Voila. A song was born. If only writing masterpieces was that easy for the rest of us...
Alex wouldn't reveal to NME.com exactly what was said to him that night, or who was involved, but he did laughingly say, "I think some of the people wouldn't want to be reminded of some of the things they were yelling in my ear that night and I'm certainly not going to mention any names otherwise they'd absolutely kill me. Or at least their boyfriends will!" Always a gentleman, our Alex!
Recorded fast and simply 'You Could Have It So Much Better... With Franz Ferdinand' was completed in the famous Avatar Studios (Chic, Bowie, Roxy Music) in New York City in June, and is set for release on October 2.
And in keeping with the theme of girls shouting things, the cover for the album has been redesigned. The artwork now shows a girl shouting the band's name. Wonder if that was inspired by another big night on the tiles...
