Grammy winners Wyclef Jean and Norah Jones have recorded "Any Other Day," a new, original song that will benefit hurricane relief efforts. "Any Other Day" will be released Friday, October 14 exclusively as a digital download through MSN Music. 100% of the proceeds from the song will go to The American Red Cross and Americares for Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief. The single will also be serviced to radio.
"Any Other Day" can be downloaded for $0.99 at www.music.msn.com/give.
An elegiac, hopeful ballad, the duet features music by Wyclef Jean and Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis and lyrics by Norah Jones, Lee Alexander and Wyclef Jean. Jean and Duplessis co-produced the session at Platinum Sound Recording Studios in New York.
Jean and Jones first performed two duets together at a late August event benefiting Jean's Yele Haiti Foundation. Finding an incredible synergy in their voices, Jean approached Jones after Hurricane Katrina struck and the two recorded "Any Other Day" quickly. After recording the track, Jean heard a performance by Jones' guitarist Richard Julian and rerecorded his guitar part with Julian's guitar.
Jean said, "As a child growing up in Haiti, I experienced the wrath and destructive power of hurricanes. And as an adult, going back, I have had the opportunity to serve in hurricane relief efforts as well. My heart is filled with tears for the victims and all those who have lost loved ones in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. No one can challenge Mother Nature. All we can do now is band together the best we can as one family and help everyone get back on their feet."
The Wyclef Jean Foundation, DBA Yele Haiti Foundation, MSN, cYclips and Gasuza Media will donate $.495 to the American Red Cross Katrina relief effort and $.495 to AmeriCares for every MSN download. Additionally, Jones, Alexander and Jean will donate any publishing royalties to the non-profit organizations.
