NEW
YORK (Deejer Website) -
Modern rock band DEEJER releases their debut
"CD Grief Can Kill An Elephant," on Friday, February 25 at the Red Eyed
Fly in Austin. Deejer is radio-ready modern rock, adult alternative,
and Top 40 alike. A professional drummer from infamous groups like
Blind Date and college crowd fave 50 Mission Crush, Chris Didear
(pronounced deejer) traded in his sticks to become lead vocalist for
Austin's hot new rock band Deejer. With a song charting on FMQB and
playing nationally on XM Satellite Unsigned radio, the transition has
been easier than the drummer jokes. Grief Can Kill An Elephant is seven
solid radio-friendly songs recorded with the talents of
producer/engineers Pete Thornton (Cold, Shinedown, Limp Bizkit), Mark
Dufour (Vertical Horizon, Love Spit Love), and Grant Ostergard.
What
began in 2002 as two friends writing songs together exploded into a
project that in
September 2004, found their single "Farther Figure" at
#27 on the FMQB Top 100 Specialty
Radio Chart beating out top acts
Green Day (#38) and
Nickelback (#42). Their DIY campaign momentum
continues in 2005, as Deejer recently garnered as many online spins on
Radio Wazee.org as songs by Bowling for Soup, Coheed & Cambria,
Nirvana, and Third Eye Blind. Besides releasing a national specialty
radio single that charted high on FMQB, Deejer is featured on the new
A&R Worldwide industry compilation and the Alternative Addiction
V.5 compilation CD.
Additionally the band showcased at the
2004 Florida
Music Festival and single "Farther Figure" received
national airplay from WKGB Binghamton, KSPI Oklahoma City, KMRJ San
Marcos, CA, WARQ Columbia, SC, KTCL Denver, WCYY Portland, ME, KUPD
Mesa, AZ, KLBJ Austin, KNCN Corpus Christi, KRBQ Waco, and KISS San
Antonio. Deejer is featured on both the
Kings of A&R and the
A&R Worldwide web sites and newsletters. Recently the band opened
for national act the Burden Brothers in Corpus Christi.
After
five years touring with 50 MC, Didear was ready for a new challenge. He
found it hooking up with co-founder
Brandon Gibbs, former front man for
longtime Austin group Overflow. "To be honest, I was flattered that
Brandon even agreed to write with a drummer turned singer like me,"
laughs Didear. With the exception of L.A. bassist Bob "Robby" Kennedy,
(Stone's Throw/Soak), who performed and recorded there with members of
School of Fish, Failure, and Red Hot
Chili Peppers, the band is all
native Texan. Lead guitarist Jeremy Moore is a well-known talent on
Waco's 102.5 FM due to the popularity of his former group Daystar.
Completing the powerhouse Deejer lineup is Corpus Christi native and
national touring drummer John
Gomez (Tripwire/Next Big Thing) who moved
to Austin to join them.
Gomez has recorded with such artists as Grammy
Award winner Chris Perez (Selena).
The release of Grief Can Kill
An Elephant kicks off Tuesday, February 22, 10:30 pm, with Deejer
appearing on-air for a special acoustic performance and spinning album
cuts with Loris Lowe for KLBJ-FM's Local Licks Live. This is followed
with a live performance on Fox7 Morning News on Thursday, February 24,
7:35 am. Join Deejer after work on Friday, February 25, from 6:00 -
8:00 pm for an intimate in-store performance at Encore
Music and Video
(Burnet & Hwy 183) with FREE Pale Ale courtesy of Austin's own Live
Oak Brewery and gelato Italian ice cream from nearby cafe Gelato's.
Later, Deejer will rock the house at the Red Eyed Fly for their
Official CD Release Party. Supporting acts are Sex & Violence
(formerly Gemini), Balistica and Trace Element (Houston).
