BURBANK, CA (Warner Bros. Records) -
Missy Higgins swept this year's ARIA Awards - Australia's equivalent of the Grammys - Sunday night in Sydney. The 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Melbourne received an extraordinary five awards for her Warner Bros. Records/Eleven
Music debut, "The Sound Of White."
Today, Missy announced a North American tour, which will take her from coast to coast throughout November and early December. The run will commence with a series of West Coast dates supporting Liz Phair. She will then head east for a series of her own headlining shows. Dates and venues are listed below.
Over recent months, Missy has repeatedly toured the U.S. opening for other like-minded musicians including Ray Lamontagne, Gavin DeGraw, Howie Day, Jason Mraz and Anna Nallick. Similar non-stop gigging in her homeland has seen her become one of Australia's biggest local concert draws with sellout shows to as many as 20,000 people per night during her current tour Down Under.
Missy's album, "The Sound Of White," has also enjoyed phenomenal success in her homeland, having recently been certified 8x platinum. About one in 20 Australian households now own a copy of the disc.
This commercial success has been matched by critical and peer acclaim as was apparent at last night's ARIA's where Missy won the following awards:
Album Of The Year
Best Female Artist
Highest Selling Album
Best Breakthrough Album
Best Pop Release
"I'm so grateful to everybody who voted - it was an amazing night," said Missy, who also performed the title track from her album during the ARIA Awards telecast. "I can remember watching the ARIA's when I was still at school and it never occurred to me that I'd even get to go to them - let alone that I'd be one of the people getting up and trying to make an acceptance speech! I think it will take a few months for it all to sink in."
48 hours before the ARIA's, Missy returned to the tiny Vanguard club in Sydney's inner west where she played several pivotal shows long before her album was released. The intimate gig generated over $25,000 for a small charity called One In Five who help raise funds for mental health research. Recordings of this special acoustic performance are being sold online to raise further funds for the charity. To obtain these exclusive recordings please follow the links from www.missyhiggins.com
