SEATTLE, WA. (spanishfor100.com) - Spanish for 100 kick off their
Spring U.S. Tour this month in support of the national release of their EP Metric. Recently touted as 'Your new favorite band,' by John Richards of Seattle's influential radio station KEXP, Spanish for 100 is set to release
Metric nationally in May on Fish the Cat Records (Ms. Led, Saeta), with distribution through Nail Distribution. The Seattle quartet will hit the road for their third national tour beginning in April.
On Metric, guitars are gracefully entwined, and tranquil melodies merge with rich harmonies to create a dusty American indie rock sound. Produced and engineered by Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, The Shins) at AVAST! Studios, Metric digs even deeper into the sonic guitar revelry and heart-born songcraft the band first explored with Ek in their debut album, Newborn Driving.
Led by the dueling guitars of Corey Passons (voice, guitar) and Aaron Starkey (guitars), along with Ross McGilvray (bass) and Chris Crumpler (drums) - who joined the band in 2005 - the group to creates a layered sound that ranges from tense rockers to mellow slow-burners. Passons terse lyrics are at once enigmatic and honest. 'I had a list of what I want and what I need / I spent all night on what I want,' he sings on 'Go away, come home.'
After weathering the underground Chicago indie circuit for a number of years, Starkey, an Illinois native, packed up his guitars and moved west to Seattle. Spanish for 100 was formed along with Passons and McGilvray in the Spring of 2002. With new drummer Chris Crumpler, the band is already at work on their full-length follow-up to Metric.
