MIAMI, FL. (Univision) - Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language television network, announced today that Mexican pop singer Paulina Rubio will be recognized with the Premio Lo Nuestro 2005 "Jovenes con Legado" (Legendary Young Artists) award, while popular music group Los Temerarios will receive the "Premio a la Excelencia" (Excellence Award). Both honors will be bestowed on the artists during the LIVE telecast of the "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina" awards ceremony on the Univision Network on Thursday, February 24, 8-11 pm ET/PT (7-10 pm Central/Mountain).

The "Jovenes con Legado" award is given to exceptional recording artists who began their musical careers at an early age and have gone on to achieve remarkable success as adults, becoming internationally famous superstars. Past recipients include Lucero, Cristian Castro, Chayanne, and Pedro Fernandez.
"I'm extremely honored to receive this special award from the Univision family--it's an important confirmation of the fact that after all these years, I'm still passionate about my music," expressed Rubio. "I have to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, especially my faithful fans."

Born in Mexico, daughter of renowned actress Susana Dosamantes, Paulina Rubio had her first taste of fame at the age of 11, when she was selected to join the immensely popular teen group Timbiriche. She grew up on the stage and in the spotlight, performing with the group for over a decade. When she went solo in 1991, Paulina's first album, "La Chica Dorada" (The Golden Girl), went platinum. Since then, this talented artist has launched 6 more albums, all of which have had extraordinary worldwide success. Her 2001 production, "Paulina," produced several No 1 hits and established her as the uncontested Latin "Pop Queen" and a major international star. Her crossover production, "Border Girl," introduced her talent to new markets such as Australia, Japan and Korea. Recognized and admired throughout the Spanish-speaking world, the U.S., Europe and Asia, Paulina Rubio truly embodies the spirit of the "Jovenes con Legado" award.

The "Premio a la Excelencia" is a special distinction bestowed upon extraordinary Latin music artists who have maintained a level of professional excellence throughout their careers. Previous winners include Julio Iglesias, Placido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Marco Antonio Solis, Los Panchos, Antonio Aguilar, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Luis Miguel, and Ricky Martin.

As one of the Latin music's most popular bands, Los Temerarios has been captivating loyal followers for over twenty years. The group was started in Zacatecas, Mexico in the early 80's by talented brothers Adolfo and Gustavo Angel Alba. Today Los Temerarios is a revered icon among fans of traditional Mexican music, selling over 18 million records and performing at sold-out concerts throughout Latin America and the U.S. Their 22 albums have produced numerous chart-topping hits that have become classics of the romantic ballad genre.

"We're thrilled and proud to receive this recognition," said Temerarios leader Adolfo Angel Alba. "It means so much to us because when we were young and starting out in our home town, we dreamed of one day reaching this level in our careers. This award makes us feel much younger and inspires us to continue succeeding."

Celebrating its 17th year honoring the best in Latin music, "Premio Lo Nuestro" is the highest-rated television program among Hispanics in the U.S., watched by more than five million Hispanic viewers, and beats all other English or Spanish language TV programs, including the Super Bowl. Year to year, it consistently out delivers other awards shows, including the Academy Awards and Golden Globes in all key Hispanic audience demos.
