This Bridgeport, CT jazz trio
consists of three amazing musicians. Bassist and vocalist LA Smooth has
performed with distinguished conductors such as the late great Leonard
Bernstein of the New York Philharmonic, Seji Osawa of the Boston
Symphony, and Carol Ann Coyne-Maxwell, artistic director of the
Mendelssohn Choir. He has also shared billing with Dion, Little
Anthony, The Marvelettes, The Kingston Trio,
Peter Newcomb and Speedo
and the Cadillacs. Saxophonist Francis M. Derico has been Program
Director for the
Music and the Arts Center for Humanity in Bridgeport,
CT, and is working to provide arts activities for youth with special
needs and others in the Greater Bridgeport community. Percussionist
George W. Johnston III is a veteran and accomplished musician who has
performed with the likes of
James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, The Drifters,
Yolanda Adams, Ashford and Simpson, Fred Hammond, Santana, Bob Baldwin
and many others.
The men have amalgamated all their talents to
create a fusion of eclectic jazz and melody. This is evident through
their first CD release entitled, In The Hollow, which has garnered
worldwide airplay and outstanding sales. Locally, the CD has been
heavily featured on WVOF 88.5 FM in Fairfield, CT.
Currently,
The LA Smooth Ensemble can be found performing their songs throughout
the tri-state area. You can find them performing at Rainy Faye
Bookstore during the store's Jazz Series and other venues like Viola's
French Bistro in Fairfield, CT. Also, the trio will soon commence
hosting a Christian Caf� series where audiences can enjoy The LA Smooth
Ensemble in an intimate setting. The men are also expected to perform
at upcoming Jazz Festivals with more details to be announced.
The
LA Smooth Ensemble is now working on their second CD which is presently
untitled. They are also creating music for the soundtrack to the
screenplay, Marginal Saints, which will be seen in cinemas in early
summer 2005.
